The hypocrisy around it is worrying. You call yourself tribe Kenya just trying to hide your identity. We fail to embrace our tribe and adopt the fake Western culture. Indeed we are lost.
The best way to fight tribalism is to face it head on.Accepting you are of a particular tribe is the one way of making yourself proud of your cultural norms in the society.East, west home is best.
Furthermore, look how we vote,it's bias, voting for a person of your tribe ,our names are still local and it depends which tribe you come from.A fellow Kenyan brother sleeping hungry and ee don't bother. When rich people die we bring the hash tag "We are one".where did humanity go?
Kenya has a total of 42 tribes,to name a few, are Kisiis kamba luo luhyas and many others. But I don't see a tribe called kenya. Now why lie to ourselves?.Even from the types food really represents our tribe. The way we dress even tops it further.
We are used to the tribal wars in our land.I recall the one of december the year 2007 the so called post election violence. Many people suffered because of belonging to a particular tribe. The chaotic environment and blood shed everywhere. The brotherhood had stopped.
All that was started peaceful was ruined by the ruthless politicians who shifted it to tribal wars.We lamely followed their prints and found ourselves killing each other.A big scar was left behind to remind us of that bloody event. Our tribes being painted in grey.
Socialmedia also has provided a gateway of hatespeech and and people who call themselves tribe kenya are the same ones who abuses other tribes using the platforms. The magnanimity of this is scaring and if not controlled we should be ready to see ourselves homeless. The bible tells us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
Most importantly, these events should not take our pride away.Trying to abolish our culture is not near to the solution. Many African countries have embraced their tribes and at least have something to represent to the outside world. It has brought its people together and share a common value.
Listen to their music, from the sound effects to the rhythm is purely there's. Nigeria and South Africa have done well in this. Its only in Kenya where we are trying to run away and imitate others. After all we remain with nothing to show to the world.
Intermarriage has really helped in fighting tribalism but it has not given the long lasting solution. As I said earlier, the best way is accepting one another's tribe and treating each other with equality that politics can never separate us again. As a Niger saying that "Who brings kola but brings life" the same case who brings peace brings life.
