When TV came it changed the whole perspective on content delivery with high number of journalists being hired.Changes can be witnessed across the globe and also the birth of socialmedia has added a sauce on this where content delivery is fast and comes in different formats,"The Digital Era"
Media studies has expanded and become the big thing that many students are craving for.Serious journalism is being taught in varsities . Alot of energy and training involved to make journalism more successful. The big question is, do students get to rip the fruits of their hard labour after graduation?
Journalism has been taken as a joyride business where anyone can walk in and become a journalist.Media companies have opend door for mediocrity which has corrupted the real journalism to a point where the content that we consume is highly sensationalised.People from other fields of profession, who dont have any background in journalism are given spaces in news rooms locking out well trained journalists who understand the ethics and history surrounding the press.
Years back, it was nice watching political debates and interviews because you could see the seriousness of a journalists who has well prepared questions and also content that is human touching stories.Stories that changed peoples views such as global warming, irrigation and industrialisation. The audience was left knowledgeable after every show.
Nowadays content has become the same across all platforms, everyone wants to run talk shows, entertainment shows and some even copying content from other channels giving poor results , fake stories and lack of credible sources.
Media owners should try as much to employ the right individuals into the industry, people who have the proper qualifications for journalism, rather than employing jokers who want to use this space to become celebrities.Their is war across our borders, poor governance, poverty, hunger among other stories that needs to be covered and inform the world about these injustices.

This is true, most of the journalists nowadays are picked from other industries like music industry, laugh industry and anyone who is a celebrity qualifies to be a journalist.
ReplyDeleteAll this is due to competition within the media industry, every media group is craving to have the most audience.
